Spearheaded the creation of the sandbox MMORPG Revival, establishing a detailed release plan and directing all aspects of design (game, level), visuals (VFX, materials, lighting), technical elements, and community relations through consistent updates.
Revival was envisioned as a sandbox MMORPG under development by IllFonic. The project aimed to create a dynamic and engaging online world with a strong emphasis on player agency and emergent gameplay. While specific details varied during its development, the core concept revolved around a detailed and comprehensive design, fostering a living world that would evolve based on player actions. The development process included consistent communication and engagement with the community. Ultimately, the project was discontinued before its official release.
• Created a sandbox MMORPG with a very detailed & comprehensive release strategy, project planning, design, & vision
• Directed team & worked in the trenches on game design, level design, VFX, scripting, materials, lighting, technical design, PR, community management & more
• Constant weekly updates to community & strong engagement to a live title in development
• Created level design metrics, designed homes for players, city layout and world building
• Worked closely with Lead Game Designers, Engineering and Art teams to drive towards a specific vision.
Level Design Specifics
I laid out all of the prototype spacing for Revival (for PR and pitch material) as well as worked closely with the LDs to build the housing units we sold online. Revival was an MMORPG in production, so most of the LD work was focused around spacing, land mark recognition and interaction opportunities for the player. However, the world was more like a Skyrim type of environment, so we had a stronger ‘time to interact’ development mantra. We wanted there to almost always be a way for the player to interact with the world around them. A huge part of this work was making sure the opportunities were present and clear to the player.
